Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi’s 9 Coolest Stand Alone Episodes

8. Into The Dalek

Steven Moffat loved Cybermen. They featured heavily during his tenure and he added some very cool concepts to their mythology. But every so often, he would delve into Dalek territory, and Into The Dalek was not only a neat addition to Moffat's creative resume, but also a good spin on Dalek mythology in general.

Re-affirming the concept of Daleks as war machines allowed for some new insight into the workings of a Dalek's brain in this episode. In retrospect, was it not plainly obvious that a Dalek's level of dialogue would be neutered to a finite number of war-mongering catchphrases?

From the beginning of their conception back in the 60s, the Daleks were intended as the monotonic fascists of the galaxy, so it's only fitting that their limited aggressive speech is highlighted as part of their monstrosity, particularly amidst the troll-infested world of today. Whatever time and space we occupy, the Daleks will always embody everything that's wrong with everything. Welcome back to the era when Doctor Who's political commentary was a lot more cryptic and therefore a megaton more intelligent. Into The Dalek was a smart one.
