Doctor Who: Ranking The Doctor's Sonic Screwdrivers Worst To Best

7. The War Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who Eleventh Doctor Sonic Screwdriver
BBC

The 'sawn-off shotgun' of the sonic screwdrivers, this scientific instrument was part of the War Doctor's arsenal.

During the hundreds of years he fought in the Time War, this screwdriver had served as the closest thing this forgotten Doctor had to a weapon. With the ability to propel Daleks, detonate explosives, create forcefields, and make calculations over hundreds of years, this tool was an asset in the Doctor's quest to win the Time War.

A mid-way point between the classic style of sonic screwdriver and its modern variants, with a silver cylindrical holder housing a glowing diode, it's clear that this device was the model in-between the Eighth and Ninth Doctor's.

Its one-off appearance means that it isn't as high on this list as more well-travelled sonics. Still, it is a clever design that celebrates the evolution of sonic screwdrivers throughout the show's history, and represents the War Doctor brilliantly.

Sound Advice: It's not a water pistol.
