Doctor Who Review: Deep Breath - 10 Ways To Breathe New Life Into An Old Soul

1. A Nod To The Past, A Feint To The Future

€œDeep Breath€ is a promising start to a new era of Doctor Who. It worked well as a transition episode, paying homage to the past while firmly stepping into the future. Capaldi€™s Doctor is commanding and unpredictable, a fascinating combination of light and dark that does not slight the gray in between. The performer is still finding his footing but that€™s OK. Like the cyborg searching for the Promised Land we forget that our idealized view of what a thing should be blinds us to the brilliance of what actually is. €œ Deep Breath€ hints of a journey filled with radiant possibility and a willingness to explore openly and honestly without catering to the past. The episode was well-crafted while Peter Capaldi€™s bold yet nuanced performance assures the Doctor is in capable and devoted hands.
