Doctor Who Revolution Of The Daleks: 10 Huge Talking Points After The New Year Special

6. Is Yaz In Love With The Doctor?

The Doctor is no stranger to his companions developing romantic feelings. Rose was in love with the Ninth and Tenth Doctor, Martha left the TARDIS in part because of her unrequited love, and arguably both Amy and Clara, despite knowing it couldn’t work, flirted with being more than just good friends with the Time Lord. Could there be a hint that Yaz has fallen for the Doctor?

Her reaction to the Doctor’s ten month absence is extreme, both in terms of her emotions and actions. Graham and Ryan, whilst feeling the loss, have dealt with it far more objectively. Yaz shoves the Doctor, both in relief and anger. Jack knows her greatest fear was that she would never see the Doctor again. Unlike Graham and Ryan, she isn’t ready to let go.

Yaz craves not only the Doctor, but the adventures in time and space. She cannot imagine returning to the relatively mundane life of a police officer in Sheffield. She wants bigger and better, and the Doctor has left a hole that nothing else can fill. But her attachment runs deeper than that. Graham and Ryan are able to go back as different people, seeing what the Doctor would see, and doing what the Doctor would do. The Doctor even gives them psychic paper to do just that. The fact that this isn’t enough for Yaz suggests that she may well be in love with the Doctor.
