Doctor Who Season 11: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

7. Secrets And Lies

The lockdown on spoilers has been quite noticeable since Chris Chibnall took up the reins. The well-orchestrated secrecy surrounding the casting of Jodie Whittaker clearly served as the perfect testing ground. Since filming started, virtually nothing has leaked out. Even those most cunning and persistent of self-proclaimed set-reporters haven’t been able to offer much by way of spoilers. There have been a couple of notable exceptions, but the BBC has taken decisive action in identifying the sources and preventing more material from leaking out.

The secrecy behind the series has created a real buzz about just how radical Chris Chibnall’s fresh approach will be. Much of the excitement is down to the fact that so little has been revealed officially. The trailer, for instance, focuses on what we already knew – on the Doctor and her three companions, with not even a single monster on show.

The last regime was famous for leading the audience up the garden path, both in the stories themselves and in the advance publicity.

Regardless of whether Chibnall’s words can and should be parsed, one of the joys of watching the new series will be in making links to the show’s past, and with Chibnall’s track record it’s highly unlikely there won't be at least a few nods scattered throughout the series. Whether it will be enough to keep most of the fans happy is another matter.
