Doctor Who Seasons 1-12 Ranked Worst To Best
6. Season One
The first season of the revived Doctor Who was amazing. Russell T Davies brought the show back with a bang and introduced a brand new audience to the show, as well as bringing back fans of the classic series.
The rebooted show had a new Doctor, new companion and a great new look. Instead of longer stories with multiple episodes we had standalones with an arc and the occasional two-parter. It was a genius new style that fit in with a modern TV landscape, which had been shaped by shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and their "monster of the week" format.
The new series was bold and it was current. It spoke of issues the were relevant and its characters were diverse and exciting. It discussed politics and social issues, covered gender and sexuality, and utilised pop culture but put it in a brand new sci-fi context. The only issue looking back, is that a lot of these references might feel slightly dated. For the most part it still works.
Eccleston was a great Doctor and we only wish he could have stayed around for more. With this being his only series, it will always be remembered fondly by fans but this was just the beginning. Over time this revival would only get better.
