Doctor Who Seasons 1-12 Ranked Worst To Best

4. Season Five

Matt Smith's first season was a near perfect run. It gave us some amazing episodes and he stole our hearts from his very first episode. So much so that The Eleventh Hour, is often considered to be the best new Doctor story of all time.

This series also gave us multiple arcs, all of them the most intriguing in the history of Doctor Who. The cracks in time, "Silence will fall," and "The Pandorica will open," became some of the recurring influences in this series. Surprisingly, the former two had repercussions right through the entirety of Matt Smith's time as the Doctor.

We met Amy and Rory who went on to become classic companions who are synonymous with Matt's Doctor. This series went above and beyond with its balance of classic and new, featuring some stunning original monsters alongside Daleks, Weeping Angels, Silurians and many more.

One of the most exciting parts of this series was the regular returns of River Song who had promised to see the Doctor again when she died in the previous series. Alex Kingston reprised her role and became a recurring character, much to fans joy. We even started to see adventures she had mentioned begin to play out, which sent fans into a frenzy.

Season five was definitely a very high point, which marked the height of Doctor Who's popularity following Ten's departure.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
