The Doctor later changes his mind about wiping Bill's memory, of course, and invites her to travel with him. "What changed your mind?" she asks him. "Time and Relative Dimension in Space," he replies. "It means 'what the hell!'"

Anyone who knows their sci-fi will be struck by how much this scene of a silver-haired time traveller throwing caution to the wind is reminiscent of another very similar moment in another franchise. At the end of Back to the Future, it is revealed that Doc Brown decided to ignore the rules of time travel and read Marty's note, thereby saving himself from certain death. What does he say by way of explanation? "Well, I figured, what the hell!"
