Doctor Who Series 10: 13 Easter Eggs & References You Might've Missed In 'The Pilot'
12. Shada
This episode sees the Doctor taking a break from planet-saving to serve time as a university lecturer at the fictional St Luke's University in Bristol. He's apparently been there for a long while and his TARDIS is hidden in his rooms.
This set-up exactly mirrors 1979's Shada, a Tom Baker story written by Douglas Adams that was never broadcast due to strikes at the BBC interfering with filming. In that story, Professor Chronotis of St Cedd's, Cambridge, is really a Time Lord in disguise. Similarly, Chronitis has an ancient Gallifreyan book with him while the Doctor has the Time Lord-y Vault.
Fans of Adams might know that the writer reused Chronotis, though he removed the connection to the Time Lords, in his sci-fi detective novel Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
