Doctor Who Series 11: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'The Witchfinders'

1. Finally Acknowledging The Doctor's Gender

When King James waltzed in to steal the show, something came up that I think pretty much everyone was expecting to come about consistently throughout this series. Instead, it really took eight episodes to bring up the Doctor’s gender in more of a malicious manner. It’s the seventeenth century. Women are being quite literally hunted for pretty flimsy reasons. It wasn’t easy being a woman back then, and it was rightly acknowledged.

The Doctor even mentions that this whole debacle would’ve been easier when she was a bloke, and she’s right. Now some might bring up that this was some PC nonsense- as people have for pretty much the entirety of the series anyway but these comments were justified. The time period was right, the context was right, the stars essentially aligned to finally bring up this new regeneration. It played a little into the plot, with the Doctor predictably being tried as a witch, but as much as it’d made some whinge-os get all ‘ooh, it’s PC bull,’ I think this was handled exceptionally well.

What did you think of The Witchfinders? Let us know down in the comments.

Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
