Doctor Who Series 11 Finale: 10 Things That Must Happen In 'The Battle Of Ranskoor Av Kolos'

Another quirk of Season 11 is that the majority of the companions’ plot lines are completely separate from the Doctor herself. In fact, take Jodie Whittaker and her big blue box out, and this is a typical kitchen sink drama of a young boy, his childhood friend and his step-grandad in the aftermath of his grandma’s death.

While a few fan expectations might be a little pie in the sky, they’ve all but confirmed that Ryan’s dad will feature in the finale. Every few episodes the topic has cropped up, whether it’s his old letter or chatting through things with Graham. His appearance could be saved for the New Years Day episode, but that would be incredibly stingy to fans invested in seeing the payoff.

Despite the dad’s somewhat looming presence, we don’t know much about him. We don’t know what excuse he has, if any, for not being there for Ryan. We don’t know if he’ll be contrite and apologetic or brash and self centred. What’s most interesting is by calling Graham ‘grandad’, Ryan has stuck his colours to the mast. Whatever happens, nothing is going to drive apart his new family.
