2. Ryan & Yaz Get Together
Early on in Season 11, the old ‘will they won’t they’ angle seemed to be being pushed heavily. Episode 3 Rosa was probably the clearest example of this, but since then things seem to have cooled somewhat. Ryan and Yaz haven’t fallen out; the romantic tension just seems to have been replaced by something platonic.
Maybe this was intentional and it was all a bait and switch from the writing team. Or maybe it’s been stretched to keep the kiss (or whatever the moment may be) for the final episode. If they are going to get together, the finale seems like do or die for them and their window.
It’s perfectly possible to write great shows without romance in them. Despite the various love stories down the years, the TARDIS has never been fuelled by romance. It does seem strange to have two young, attractive people who get along share so many unique experiences and then not have them make a go of it, though.
TV is not real life. They show us things for specific reasons, and deliberately showed us a growing closeness between the pair. Why bother if there’s no pay off?
