Doctor Who Series 13: 8 Leaked Details We Already Know

7. Maxine Alderton Is A "Core Writer"

At this point, we don't know much about who's going to be writing Series 13's episodes (apart from the obvious candidates, like showrunner Chris Chibnall), but if a screenshotted CV is to be believed, then the writer of a standout episode from Series 12 might be playing an even bigger role in the development of Series 13.

Again, if the following image is to be believed, then Maxine Alderton - who wrote The Haunting Of Villa Diodati, the eighth episode of the previous series - is sticking with Doctor Who for the time being, working on Series 13 as a "core writer".

Now, considering that this tweet is over a year old - and considering that it pre-dates the pandemic, which undoubtedly caused many changes in the planning of Series 13 - this information might not be true anymore. But if it is true, then it's definitely good news to have Alderton involved with the show.

The Haunting Of Villa Diodati was a great story, and while we don't know exactly what "core writer" means in this case (is she writing two or three episodes? Is she going to be working in more of a showrunner capacity, alongside Chibnall?), let's hope that Alderton can continue to deliver some strong material.

Another writer who might be returning to Doctor Who is Malorie Blackman, who wrote Series 11's Rosa. When a fan asked her if she'll be penning more Doctor Who stories in the future, Blackman responded with a single emoji: the "I know something you don't" winky face. Is this a hint, or is she just being cheeky? We'll have to wait and see.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
