Doctor Who Series 7: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

8. A Change of Companion

This is the biggie. Episode five of the series, which we now know is entitled The Angels Take Manhattan, will see the departure of Amy and Rory in what has been claimed by all and sundry to be a real tearjerker. Well, we do remember the first time the Doctor said goodbye to Rose and when David Tennant uttered the words €œI don€™t want to go€ before regenerating into Matt Smith, so we all know that the show can do emotional pieces that more than stand up to the action set-pieces, so is it wrong to expect nothing but the best? Again, there has been plenty of talk about this episode and its one that simply cannot fail to deliver on its potential. We have Weeping Angels in New York and we have the promise from Steven Moffat that €œnot everyone gets out alive.€ That means there are no tricks, no sudden time switches and no Roman Centurians this time around. Someone is going to die and the only question we are left asking is will it be Amy or Rory? Matt Smith also mentioned in an interview that something from his first episode, The Eleventh Hour, comes up as the Ponds prepare to meet their maker in what should forever be known as €œA Moff Moment€, you know the ones where you have almost forgotten something then he springs a connection on you. As with the departure of any companion from the show, somewhere another one waits around the corner €“ in the Christmas Special as a matter of fact. Jenna Louise Coleman joins the show as Clara, a girl who it seems can more than match the Doctor with her whit, fast talking, clever and strong character. However, anyone expecting another run of the mill companion, the production team have put fears to rest with a number of comments stressing that Clara will have €œlots of secrets and intrigue€ as well as a dynamic that has not been seen before in one of the Doctor€™s assistants. If we have recovered from Amy and Rory€™s final stand by the end of the December, then surely Coleman€™s arrival will be similar to Matt Smith stepping into the shoes of David Tennant two years ago.
