Doctor Who Series 7: 5 Hints At The Season Arc

5. Doctor Who?

To round off, a slightly more obvious yet significant plot element that was picked up from Series Six. This was the Doctor's attempts to step back into the shadows after his fame and notoriety led to Amy's kidnapping and him coming close to the brink of everlasting death last season. Already in the 2011 Christmas Special, we saw the Time Lord begin to contemplate how to quieten down, dubbing himself 'The Caretaker' (and now 'The Predator', quite aptly) and even considering never revealing himself to the Ponds again. This time around, though, things took an even more unexpected and resetting turn. Far from simply besting an army of insane Daleks with Oswin's help, the Doc actually had himself erased from the data archives of his worst adversaries, essentially rebooting their confrontations for future episodes as the Eleventh incarnation stops the Daleks from conquering the universe using more subtle methods. I have no doubt that the Moff's big move will have proven divisive, yet to me after all of the time spent dreaming up excuses about Time War escapees and the Daleks knowing everything about their nemesis it was the perfect way to adjust and evolve the series chronology. Dinosaurs On A Spaceship, A Town Called Mercy and The Power Of Three all seem set to focus on new, surprising monsters and villains, so this arc of subtlety for the Doctor's character can easily continue there, while the Weeping Angels are hardly on name-to-name terms with the Time Lord either. We've got four weeks of Who ahead, so let's enjoy them, as the subtle yet intriguing story arc of Series Seven begins to develop and build towards an exciting finale next Spring. All this, and we're still more than a year off from the 50th Anniversary- not half bad for a show running forty-nine years and strong!
