2. General Warwick-Davis-Related Awesomeness
Say what you will about the BBC, it knows how to take advantage of the opportunities it has, especially when it comes to its guest stars. While we won't get into the debate about which guest stars are the best (because that's apparently a REALLY bad idea), and while it could also be said that many projects that cast undersized performers don't quite know how to strike the balance between exploiting said performers' height and... well... not exploiting it enough, missing out on the opportunity for some really memorable characters, Doctor Who has never had such a problem. Actor Jimmy Vee has been playing the mini-monsters since 2005, from the Moxx of Balhoon to Bannakaffalatta, and is definitely stood in the perfect middle ground between just using his talent, and being comfortable with letting the writers 'take advantage' of his height. Now we have superstar Warwick Davis on board, a man with a CV to make a lot of actors place several heavy books on their head in an attempt to lose a few feet, having amassed quite a career as an ewok, goblin, leprechaun, paranoid android and magic-teacher. While the news that Davis is going to guest-star is a good enough reason to be hyped, we know he's in safe hands in terms of casting, writing and direction - the BBC aren't going to do anything embarrassing or exploitative like putting him in an elf costume and making him talk in a squeaky voice, but at the same time they're not about to employ him for voice-overs. These things? They're good. Roll on Warwick!
