Doctor Who Series 9: 9 Theories That May Actually Come True
5. The Search For Gallifrey
The Doctor is going home. At least, it's certainly believed by most that will be the case, given how much of a prominence has been given to Gallifrey since The Day of the Doctor and the opening up for him to eventually return there at some point. In series 8 he received the supposed location of the planet from Missy, and went straight in search of it, with an emotional payoff when it ultimately wasn't there. Now the speculation - admittedly fuelled by Capaldi himself - is that Gallifrey, or at least the search for it, will form part of the overarching story for series 9. The Doctor has spent a long time running away from his past, but it seems as though it is finally catching up with him, or at the very least he is prepared to face it. As for what exactly he'll find on the planet (if and when he gets there), it opens the door for a huge number of possibilities, such as the already mentioned Valeyard, the Rani, and various other Time Lords and Ladies, while it'll be a way of linking Missy and The Doctor together even more than they already are.
