Doctor Who Series 9: 9 Theories That May Actually Come True

6. The Valeyard's Return

"There€™s something stalking him, that will make life less pleasant for him€There€™s been lots of great moments, there are a couple of classic monsters that I€™ve got to work with and one in particular in a very special way which will make you, um, have to think carefully about regeneration.€ They were Peter Capaldi's words in an interview at San Diego Comic-Con, which have since sparked feverish speculation as to who or what he is referring to. Although not technically a 'monster' as such, the mention of regenerations, especially when you consider what number Doctor Capaldi is, has led to the theory that series 9 could finally be the one to see the return of the Valeyard. He's been speculated to return ever since the announcement of John Hurt in Day of the Doctor, and now could be the perfect time for the character to come back to our screens. After all, he is the incarnation of the evil inside The Doctor from between his twelfth and final regenerations, and even though the cycle has been renewed, Capaldi is still counted as number 12. He would certainly fit the bill as something special, and it may be that he appears at the end of the series, setting things up for more of an arc in series 10.
