Doctor Who Series 9 New Trailer: 12 Things We Learned

4. What Missy's Up To

Michelle Gomez as Missy, aka the Mistress, aka the Master, aka the Doctor's oldest friend and worst nightmare, was one of the undoubted highlights of series 8, bringing a real sense of menace mixed with joyous insanity to the role. Despite being zapped away in the series finale, the good news - announced by Gomez in apple-munching fashion - is that she's back to unleash even more madness in series 9. Although Gomez has stated that there's a different dynamic this time around, and that she's involved in ways you wouldn't expect, from the trailer it would certainly seem that she's up to no good. She pops up with a suitably weird delivery of the word 'hello', which in just one word shows the kind of craziness to expect from her. Later she's seen apparently having a good ol' laugh with a Dalek, which may indicate that she is once again working with them against their common enemy - the Doctor. Given that we know Missy is appearing in the opening two-parter, The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar, this should confirm that the Daleks will also be in those same episodes.
