Doctor Who Series 9: Who Are The Hybrids And What Does It All Mean?
1. So What Does It All Mean?
The mystery of the hybrid prophecy continues to remain just that - a mystery. It is becoming more overt as series nine progresses but audiences are still none the wiser. But like any great mystery the fun is trying to solve it while waiting to be pleasantly surprised when the answers all become clear. With that in mind, what could the hybrid mystery all be about?
The end of the universe? The creation of a great and terrible warrior? Osgood is part Zygon, Ashildr part Mire and the we don't need to say anything about the part Daleks. They are all warrior races, hellbent on conquering and raging destruction upon other less fortunate races. Will the human half temper that? Will Time Lord DNA amplify that? Part Time Lord, part Dalek hybrids are surely the epitome of what the Time War was all about. As such the creation of a warrior or multiple warriors would seem like the most obvious solution and one the Doctor would seek to run from.
But Davros also suggested the prophecy was reason the Doctor fled Gallifrey in the first place. Is there something we have yet to see that will tie it all together? Perhaps we are even looking at a hybrid war with people like Osgood and perhaps River on one side and Davros on the other - with Ashildr potentially on either side. Either way, it does not look good for the Doctor.
The answers are just weeks away. Will we see another form of hybrid before the end? Almost certainly. This mystery is one of the most intriguing arcs the show has done with key players like Davros and Missy thrown into the mix. And with Clara leaving soon too, the series finale is sure to be an explosive one!
