Doctor Who Series 9: Who Are The Hybrids And What Does It All Mean?

8. Ashildr And Sam Swift, The Human - Mire Hybrids

The hybrid theme running through series nine wasn't really clear until the climax of The Girl Who Died, which saw the Doctor resurrect Ashildr with Mire technology, essentially creating a Human - Mire hybrid. Maisie William's Viking Girl proved to be a significant player in series nine, returning as a 16th century noblewoman and highwayman in The Woman Who Lived and is due to make a return before the series is out.

Unlike the defeated Daleks, Ashildr is still out there, naming herself patron of all the people the Doctor has left behind and spying on Clara at the gates of Coal Hill School. And now she is possibly accompanied by Rufus Hound's Sam Swift, the highwayman resurrected to stop Lenadro's alien invasion from another galaxy.

Ashildr is certain to play a significant role in the hybrid storyline. Just what her - and Sam Swift's - role in all this is, remains to be seen...
