Doctor Who: Space Babies Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs
4. UP - The Bogeyman
If I had a pound for every Doctor Who monster that was made out of bogies, I'd have two pounds, but it's weird that it happened twice. The biological origins of the Bogeyman may draw unfavourable comparisons with the Sandmen from Sleep No More, but it looks great.
The scene where it's about to be ejected from an airlock is stomach churning to look at, as fragments of dried up snot get broken off and flung out into space. The horror of the Bogeyman is aided by the fact it's largely shot in low light, to emphasize the scariness, and cover up its snotty secret.
The design of the Bogeyman is one of the highlights of Space Babies, providing the slight script with a proper scary monster. It looks utterly disgusting, dripping with glistening slime and bearing a set of terrifying teeth.
Whether it's chasing the Doctor and Ruby down a hallway or menacing little Eric, the Bogeyman is a horrific-looking thing that lives long in the memory after the credits roll.
