Doctor Who: Survivors Of The Flux Review - 6 Ups & 6 Downs

2. DOWN - Who’s Behind The Door?

This week’s cliffhanger left us fairly underwhelmed.

As The Grand Serpent signals to a mysterious force, giving them the all clear for a full-scale invasion, both the companion gang and the Lupari (plus Bel) found themselves under siege. As the doors began to break down, we wondered who might make an appearance. We, like many others, assumed we would find out more about the organisation that Big Snake worked for, and that they would be the invading force that UNIT would contend with in next week’s big finale. In a bizarre turn, however, it turns out the Sontarans are back for seconds.

Now, we absolutely loved the Sontarans in episode two. In fact, we went on record saying that it might even be the best Sontaran episode of all time, but we also feel like their part in this story was over - two separate Sontaran stories in a six episode series feels excessive. The Sontarans just don’t feel like finale villains to us. With any luck they’ll be out of the way early next week so that we can focus on Swarm and Azure.

Someone get Dan a wok - he’ll sort this mess out.
