Doctor Who: Survivors Of The Flux Review - 6 Ups & 6 Downs

8. UP - Converging Plots

Doctor Who Flux
BBC

With a series that has had a ludicrous number of parallel plots, it’s about time we started connecting up a few. Thankfully, this happened in a few places this week, and in unexpected ways.

Just as it looked as if Bel and Vinder might be reunited this week, our star-crossed lovers missed each other once again. Bel was whisked away by Karvanista after a gap in the Earth’s barrier opened up, nicely paying off the casual mention of her having stolen a Lupari craft. This culminated in an entertaining shoot-out between two characters that we would not have expected to meet this week, before the duo were forced to reluctantly join forces.

We also saw Vinder come face-to-face with Swarm and Azure and seemingly get himself captured intentionally. Either that or it was bad writing and he was just way too chill about being absorbed by Passenger - it’s hard to tell sometimes. Inside passenger, he comes face to face with a familiar woman: Di from Liverpool - the fact that, in this sprawling galactic setting, she chooses to identify herself as being from Liverpool and not Earth tells us that her and Dan are perfect for each other.

We tell you what, Swarm and Azure better be scared, because Di has a score to settle. We aren’t sure this scene was meant to be hilarious, but the suggestion that Di was going to sort out the Ravagers once and for all had us rolling.

You go for it Di. What a hero.

Alex is a sci-fi and fantasy swot, and is a writer for WhoCulture. He is incapable of watching TV without reciting trivia, and sometimes, when his heart is in the right place, and the stars are too, he’s worth listening to.
