Doctor Who: Survivors Of The Flux Review - 6 Ups & 6 Downs

4. DOWN - Tecteun’s Pointless Appearance

Yup. It was Tecteun. Wow. We are all so surprised.

We will say one little positive thing here. As controversial as the Timeless Child storyline was, we commend Chibs’ decision to double down on his planned plot instead of sweeping it under the rug or retconning it as many fans strongly encouraged him to do. Neither of these would have been sensible moves.

Having said that, this plot just doesn’t engage us very much. Tecteun seemed to appear just to let us know that The Master wasn’t lying, and remind casual viewers what happened last series, and then, this hugely significant character within the new lore unceremoniously snuffs it by Swarm’s hand. She doesn’t even impart anything of any significance besides showing The Doctor the fob watch that contains her lost memories. It’s a nice callback, but it’s not enough to justify her pointless part in this story which it seems was meant to carry some weight.

When this series started, we were very excited by Swarm and Azure, who seemed to be the big bad of the Flux storyline. As time goes on, we aren’t so sure. These compelling villains are starting to get a little lost under the heavy weight of the Timeless Child and Division plots, and with so little screen time these past few weeks, they feel diminished as a threat as we head into the finale. Not a good place for the series to be, is it?
