Doctor Who: The Five Best Companion Introductions In NuWho

3. Clara Oswald

Doctor Who The Eleventh Hour Amy Pond the Doctor Matt Smith Karen Gillan
BBC

Whoever followed the much-loved duo of Amy Pond and Rory Williams was going to have very tough shoes to fill. Thankfully, Clara Oswald had an interesting story to boost her debut.

Clara was introduced to viewers not just one, but three times. First as Oswin Oswald, a victim of the Daleks, then doomed Victorian Governess Clara Oswin Oswald, and finally Clara Oswald, a young Nanny from modern day London. All slightly different versions of the same character, and in all cases, she manages to save The Doctor in some way. Oswin accomplishes this by erasing The Daleks' memories of The Doctor, and Victorian Clara through helping him recover from the loss of his beloved Ponds. The Eleventh Doctor is left to work out how exactly this was possible, and hopefully, prevent the latest Clara from meeting a tragic fate.

The mystery surrounding the Impossible Girl led to countless fan theories about Clara's identity, making her one of the most highly talked about NuWho companions upon her debut.
