Doctor Who: The Halloween Apocalypse Review - 7 Ups & 5 Downs
1. DOWN - The Cliffhanger
So this Flux seems like a pretty big deal, huh? What? It’s here already? Blimey, that was quick.
We’ll start by saying we like the concept of the Flux a lot, though we aren’t sure exactly what it is yet. Having said that, it seemed to sneak up very suddenly at the end there, didn’t it.
After Karvanista reveals the existence of the Flux to The Doctor, it just sort of appears at the edge of the solar system out of nowhere, and eats up what appears to be Uranus (this sounds like we’re setting up a childish joke, but we promise we’re not). The Doctor then makes the decision to lead the Flux toward Earth under the somewhat nonsensical assumptions that firstly, 7 billion Lupari ships will shield the Earth, and secondly, that the Flux, which has obliterated everything in its path thus far, won’t immediately do the same to to the Lupari and their ships. Has the Doctor just committed a double human and doggo genocide? It’s an odd and incredibly risky plan…
There’s also the small matter of The Doctor somehow not being aware of the universe being completely torn to shreds. Sure, we could make the argument that this has all happened very quickly, but then why was Karvanista aware of it?
All in all, the conclusion here felt just a little rushed. Regardless, it’s a bloody good cliffhanger isn’t it? This is already shaping up to be the best Who we’ve had since Twice Upon A Time, and we can’t wait for more.
