Doctor Who: The Halloween Apocalypse Review - 7 Ups & 5 Downs

9. UP - Karvanista And The Lupari

We’ll be completely straight with you, when we saw the trailers, we didn’t expect for one moment that the giant dog aliens would find themselves taking an ‘up’ spot on our list, and yet, here we are.

Karvanista, a member of the Lupari species and former operative for the division, made for an interesting addition to this episode. Characterised, in stark contrast to his fluffy exterior, as a grumpy kidnapper who is just about done with humanity’s bulls**t, Karvanista abducts Dan and imprisons him on his spaceship.

The real twist comes when it is revealed that every Lupari is bonded with a human, and Karvanista is in fact attempting to save Dan from the impending apocalypse by removing him from the doomed planet Earth, albeit begrudgingly. In an amusing twist on the concept of man’s best friend, it turns out that the Lupari were just being good bois all along.

It’s bonkers, it’s sweet, and strangely, we’re here for it. Thumbs up.
