Doctor Who: The Halloween Apocalypse Review - 7 Ups & 5 Downs

8. DOWN - Exposition Drops

Chibbers… Oh Chibbers. And you were doing so well…

Every era has its Achilles’ heel. RTD couldn’t write conclusions, Moffat was a little too attracted to his own makebelieve characters and Chibnall… well, I think we all know by this point.

We’ll repeat this one more time, Chris, because we really are rooting for you: SHOW. DON’T TELL.

The exposition drops in this episode were, as we’ve come to expect, both unsubtle and even more frequent than ever. Granted, this episode had a lot to set up (seriously, a lot), and we’ll cut Chibs a little slack on that basis, but even so, the audience doesn’t require nearly as much spoonfeeding as the writing might suggest.

Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see less of these exposition bombs during this season, now that we’ve made it through the introductory chapter, but we wouldn’t bank on it.

A sadly predictable point for the downs list.
