Doctor Who: The Halloween Apocalypse Review - 7 Ups & 5 Downs
6. UP - Mystery Boxes
Look at all that plot!
This episode dangled so many intriguing threads in front of us that we don’t know where to look, introducing us to a number of genuinely compelling mysteries that we’re excited to follow. Every one of these new mystery boxes has already grabbed our attention more than the Master’s repetition of the phrase ‘everything is about to change’ in series 12.
For starters, we’re picking straight back up with The Division, the more interesting and less canon-shattering of the two Timeless Children reveals, which will no doubt be the central core of the series. The Swarm (blinged up red skull and his slightly scary missus) appear to be old nemeses of The Doctor from their forgotten years as part of The Division, and we’re curious to see where this goes. (Also, yes, we thought this was going to be The Master as well, you’re not alone).
Then we have Sally Sparr- we mean, Claire, and her friendly stalker, the Weeping Angel. Claire claims to have met The Doctor, but clearly further along in her timestream, and promptly gets zapped back in time by an angel. Some actual timey-wimey shenanigans, at last! You know, for a show about time travel, this show, especially in recent years, really doesn’t do a lot of time travel stories.
And there’s a Victorian miner too, not really sure what he’s doing, but he’s there too, we guess? We’re sure he’ll make a bit more sense later on…
