7. UP - Tension In The TARDIS

What’s this? Some depth in the TARDIS dynamic?

After being hinted at towards the end of last season, we see Yaz further challenge Thirteen’s happy-go-lucky facade, and the two butt heads about the Doctor continuing to lie to Yaz. This is great to see, and with a smaller TARDIS team, this is given more room to breathe - we hope this plot point isn’t dropped and comes to a head, because the Doctor/companion relationship has been lacking in depth for long enough. Better yet, continue to give Whittaker some meatier, darker scenes to sink her teeth into - it’s where she truly shines.

Also, it’s good to see Yaz getting a little more time to shine in her own right, becoming a more experienced and hardened companion (looks like she even flew the TARDIS briefly). Unfortunately, as per subsection thirteen of the Doctor Who rulebook, this probably means she’s probably going to end this season either dead as a dodo or separated from the Doctor in tragic circumstances.

Speaking of the TARDIS, having everything go bonky and leaky was amusing and intriguing. We daresay we prefer the new interior with the doors coming out of the floor.
