Doctor Who: The Vanquishers Review - 4 Ups & 9 Downs

4. UP - Going Out Like A Boss

We had a feeling this might happen, but it didn’t make it any easier. This week, something dreadful happened. We lost Jericho to the Flux. So much for that spin-off…

This man has been a highlight of the past three episodes, thanks to the wonderful acting of Kevin McNally, and we wish he’d have become a full time companion. But someone had to go in a high stakes story like this, and quite frankly he was the only feasible option.

His plot this episode wasn’t particularly interesting, nor did it have much bearing on the plot besides making sure he was in the right place to die, but he was still a joy to watch, and his death was scripted, shot and scored extremely well. He didn’t sacrifice himself per se, but that didn’t mean this man didn’t go out like a hero. He stood his ground, accepting his fate, he comforted his friends and even took the time to make one last cheerful quip before being engulfed by The Flux.

Rest in peace, sweet prince. You will be missed.
