Doctor Who: Top 10 Companion Arrivals

3. Rose Tyler - Rose

Rose Tyler Billie Piper 2 Life was a dull, day-to-day routine for 19-year-old Rose Tyler - get up, catch the bus to work, put in a day's work at a department store, and head home. The last thing she expected was an attack by store mannequins in the basement... or for a strange man to grab her hand and shout, "Run!". Within seconds, Rose's job goes up in flames, and her world is completely upside-down. She keeps crossing paths with the culprit and presses him for answers, not letting his reticence get in the way of her search for an explanation. When this strange Doctor finally does clue her in on the situation, nothing in her life is ever going to be the same. Rose was a challenging and incredibly important episode because it brought Doctor Who back to our screens for the first time since 1996. Both the Doctor and the companion had to be phenomenal and really grab the audience's attention; everything had to be perfect. The way the writers introduced Rose had a lot to do with the show's success; they took an ordinary girl with an ordinary life, a life not very different from ours, and showed her the stars.
