2. Amy And Rory Leave The Angels Take Manhattan
This one is a double kick in the stomach. Rory, Amy, the Doctor and River find an older Rory dying, having been transported through time by a Weeping Angel and trapped in a grizzly hotel, desperate to see Amy for the first time in years. They need to find an escape. The angels are desperate for Rory, closing in on him quickly as he fights for his freedom. They make their way to the rooftop but theres no escape; the Statue of Liberty looming over them, a frightening look on her face. One blink and she will take him back to the room for him to live out his whole life there. So Rory thinks of a solution: jumping off of the roof, creating a paradox. He stands on the ledge, full of fear, as Amy chokes back tears watching him. He asks her to push him, placing her hand on his shirt. She refuses. Instead, she climbs onto the ledge with him. The Doctor rushes onto the roof and runs over to them as they fall together, calling after Amy as she and Rory fall to their deaths. Then, they wake in a graveyard. Everyone chokes back their tears when they see that they are ok. But its not over. Just as they are about to leave, Rory sees a gravestone with his own name on it. Then suddenly he is no longer there. One last angel had taken him back in time. Amy realises what she must do and despite the Doctors protests, she allows the angel to take her to Rory. Its an incredibly romantic gesture between Amy and Rory but its certainly difficult for the Doctor, River and the audience to see. We have to lose two companions twice in the space of five minutes. If this isnt enough to get the audience sobbing, theres always the epilogue. An afterword in Rivers book written by Amy for the Doctor. Its her goodbye. Although shes happy, its a sad moment, knowing that she will never see the Doctor again.
