Doctor Who: What Happened To Each Doctor After They Left The Show?

Unlike Hartnell, Patrick Troughton appeared in dozens more movies and TV shows after his Doctor Who exit, with the actor choosing to leave the show in 1969.

His most famous post-Doctor Who film role was as Father Brennan in 1976 horror classic The Omen, where he was memorably killed off when a falling lightning rod impaled him outside a church. And no, he didn't regenerate. He also appeared alongside Christopher Lee in Scars Of Dracula, playing the role of Klove, the loyal servant of the titular vampire.

He also did an insane amount of TV work right up until his death in 1987, appearing in Inspector Morse, The Two Ronnies, and even long-running soap Coronation Street.

In addition, Troughton returned to play the Second Doctor on three separate occasions: 1972's The Three Doctors, 1983's The Five Doctors, and 1985's The Two Doctors (not the most creative of naming conventions). To this day, this is the most times a former Doctor has ever stepped back inside the TARDIS doors.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
