Doctor Who: What Happened To Each Doctor After They Left The Show?

10. Jon Pertwee

Tom Baker Doctor Who Little Britain
ITV

Last Regular Episode: Planet Of The Spiders

Jon Pertwee stepped down as the Third Doctor in 1974, citing a multitude of issues including the death of his co-star Roger Delgado, as well as his wish to pursue a career on the stage. And that's exactly what he did, starring in The Bedwinner in a London theatre not too long after his time with the show had ended.

He then went on to headline another popular TV show, Worzel Gummidge, and its followup, Worzel Gummidge Down Under. Both were extremely successful programmes in their own small way, and the title character is easily Pertwee's most famous role besides the Third Doctor.

Pertwee also turned in one more performance in the Doctor Who universe, returning for The Five Doctors in 1983. He died in 1996, aged 76.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
