Doctor Who: What Your Favourite Companion Says About You

6. Captain Jack Harkness

The Companion: When you look at it from a distance, the strangest thing about the man we know as Captain Jack Harkness is that after ten years with the character we still have absolutely no idea what his real name is. Even stranger, no one ever seems to wonder about the fact. From his first appearance we were pretty sure that he had just adopted that name as a sort of nom de crime, but even after we met the actual Captain Harkness in season one of Torchwood no one has bothered to set him down and ask what he's actually called. (It should be noted that it would be more than a little hypocritical for the Doctor to be the one asking him this...) We know that his brother was named Gray. Perhaps his parents were into theme names and he was really called Black. Oh my God.. Does this mean that Jack Black is a time agent from the future? Must investigate further. Notable Achievement: Paving the way for Sarah Jane after him, Jack was the first companion to successfully crack the whole 'getting your own spinoff show' paradigm. K-9's thoughts on the matter are not recorded, but it can be assumed that they're not kind. What Liking Him Best Says About You: You like adventure, derring-do, and men with square jaws doing WWII cosplay. The arrival of Jack on the TARDIS in 2005 signaled a welcome change for you from the Doctor and Rose show to a group of friends having adventures and having a wonderful time. Sadly that ended all too quickly. There's a pretty good chance that you've written Torchwood fan fiction, although if pressed hard enough you'd admit to finding the first two seasons of it a little average.
