8. River Song
The Companion: River Song, aka Melody Pond. A companion of the Doctor in the Brigadier sense of the term, although it seems unlikely that the Doctor and the Brigadier ever either made out or got married. (Although it is now legal for them to do so on both counts.) A divisive character, many in fandom took an immediate dislike to her on her first appearance on the grounds that she seemed to claim a special place in the Doctor's life that - from a fan perspective - she simply hadn't earned as a character. In her defense, from her perspective she already had many times over. Others later took issue with the sheer amount of the show that became dedicated to telling River Song's story. Whichever side of the issue you come down on, it's undeniable that she and the Eleventh Doctor had amazing chemistry together. Notable Achievement: Dying conclusively on your first appearance on the show is not a trick that just anyone can pull off. The mirroring of the line, 'Not those times. Don't you dare' between her to the tenth Doctor and then the Eleventh Doctor to her is one of the most well structured devices the show has ever pulled off. Particularly when you realize that they were both quoting one another when they said it.What Liking Her Best Says About You: You like puzzles. You enjoy your plotting like you enjoy your romantic partners; Complicated and Challenging. You have a small amount of internal discord over the fact that you quite enjoyed the River/Doctor romance even though the Rose/Doctor romance irritated you beyond belief. You have definitely, at least once, watched all of the River Song stories in the order that she experienced them.
