When Doctor Who returned to our screens in 2005 fans were giddy with the notion of a new version of the show and a new incarnation of the Doctor for a whole new generation of fans. With Christopher Eccleston as the lead role it was fairly obvious the show would have at least some small success and expectations were high with fans young and old alike. While Ecclestons performance was masterful and many praised his brooding take on the iconic character, fans were quick to raise complaints about the Doctors latest costume. What disappointed many was the plain, boring, and what some would describe as skin head look, of which the new Doctor had opted to sport. Apparently from the revivals earliest inception, Russell T Davies had always planned for the new Doctor to wear a leather jacket. And why not? He'd worn a great deal of other things in the past and leather jackets do always say 'Action' with a capital 'A'. The area in which the Doctors image was let down, unfortunately, was with everything else. His leather jacket was certainly "fantastic" but the accompanying plain jumper, black trousers and boots left many people wanting more. Even Rose calls him out on his decision to not change his clothes in The Unquiet Dead to which he responds, "I changed my jumper!". Unfortunately for many fans, it was this exact lack of variation that ruined the overall look of the, admittedly short-lived, Eccleston era and left many fans eager for a Doctor with a look which would have been more tailored to his Time Lord image. Many wanted the Doctor to look more like the eccentric alien he was and less like "the bloke from down troad".
