Doctor Who's 10 Worst Fashion Faux Pas

4. Sylvester McCoy's Braces-Over-Jumper Look

Time And The Rani On 7th September 1987 the world was introduced to the newest incarnation of the Doctor. This time, in his seventh incarnation, the Doctor was a shorter Scottish fellow with a penchant for playing the spoons. While he spent some of his first story, Time and the Rani, wearing his predecessors costume, viewers did eventually get to see a whimsical montage of Sylvester McCoy trying on various interpretations of past Doctors€™ costumes before he eventually settled on his own combination. The overall elements of his look are strong and classic but there€™s one mistake that the Doctor makes in this story, and thankfully one which he has never repeated. While it's only minor, so much so that many may not have even noticed it, like Troughton€™s safety pin bow tie, it is now an established part of Doctor Who history forever. Are you ready for it? For his first story as the Doctor, Sylvester McCoy wears his trousers braces over the top of his jumper. Yes, dear reader, McCoy had made the rather heinous crime of tucking his sweater-vest into his trousers and plopping his braces right on top. A truly shameful display, Doctor. You really should know better than that. It's a silly error but one that's out there for the who world to see all the same. Perhaps it was down to his post-regeneration amnesia.
