Doom Patrol Season 1 Premiere Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

1. It's The Best Superhero TV Debut In Years

In total fairness, there haven't been a ton of truly startling, unique superhero TV series in recent years that just came storming out of the gate, so it may sound like damning Doom Patrol with faint praise to call it the best superhero TV debut in a long time.

But this is a vibrant, confident season premiere which avoids so many of the pitfalls that other shows have fallen into, skirting clear of contrived writing, forced character dynamics and cheap production values to deliver an enormously encouraging statement of intent.

Now it just remains to be seen whether or not the rest of the season can maintain this level of charm and forward-momentum, but you can rest assured that most will be returning to see how episode two turns out.

What did you think of Doom Patrol's season premiere? Will you be tuning in next week? Shout it out in the comments!
