Dreamcasting The Watchmen TV Show
5. Willem Dafoe - Rorschach
Although Willem Dafoe is considerably older than the Rorschach of the graphic novel, he still has the talent to make it work. Dafoe's presence onscreen is undeniable, and he perfectly captures the anger running just under the skin. As Rorschach's face is hidden for most of the runtime, an actor who can convey a great deal through his voice is just as important as through his face, while Dafoe's is distinct enough to pull this off.
Rorschach is a character that requires him to be at times peaceable and at others to fly off the handle, demonstrating a wide variety of internal and external turmoil. Dafoe is an exceptional choice for this, not least because of how inspired his turn as the Green Goblin was.
Though Jackie Earle Haley's performance is by far the best of the original film, Dafoe matches many of the traits that made Haley's portrayal so genuine. Willem Dafoe contains both the subdued nature of Walter Kovacs and the roaring anger of the grapple gun-toting vigilante. The only foreseeable issue is that Dafoe is currently working on other DC projects, Justice League and Aquaman, as Aquaman's advisor Vulko.
