Each Attack On Titan Season Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Season 1 Part 1
If talking about the quality of the storytelling, the first season does not compare to the later ones. However, in regards to the pure spectacle, intensity and world-building, it's one of the best introductions to a world in any medium.
We are thrown into the show without being handheld, and the exposition comes naturally, with an effort to build up the people of this worlds way of life. Then much like the humans themselves, everything we have learned is drastically altered when the titan's attack.
Many theories sought to explain the popularity of the show, but one that makes the most sense is akin to the idea of why zombies were such a popular trend at one point. Simple concepts of humans vs mindless beasts are fascinating to watch, as the simplicity of the conflict calls for creativity to appear in other places. Something that AOT succeeds in, due to the characters, world-building and animation.
The first arc is intense and instantly sets it apart from other shows as it is evident that the world of AOT is brutal and unfair, it's clear from the offset that the characters will have a hard time and that makes it all the more exciting. The first season has a perfect set up and some moments that still stand as the show's best to this day.
