Each Lead From The Good Place Ranked Worst To Best

5. Tahani Al Jamil

The Good Place
NBC

Tahani Al Jamil, played effortlessly by the charming Jameela Jamil is a wonderful presence in The Good Place. She went from being Elanor's petty rival to a contributing member of the team with a grand sense of purpose. This progression from a spoilt rich socialite to a humble and hard-working (dead) human being was a highlight for the show.

Similar to Jason, Tahani could sometimes lack agency in problem-solving. However - unlike the Jacksonville Jaguars superfan - she proved herself to be valuable and many scenarios would have failed were it not for her involvement.

Additionally, in contrast to Jason, her character was far more nuanced. The high society presence who loves to name drop all of her celebrity friends had a true identity. There are no other characters in sit-coms that can be compared to her. Although contrasting traditional archetypes she was a perfect fit not only for the format but for the specific setting of the show.

With the afterlife it makes a tonne of sense to employ a character so outlandishly wealthy as this. Normally such a rich character would be avoided as there would be no way to make them feel relatable. But Tahani has a place because nothing in the show is realistic. The audience already needed to find their own way to relate and thus a character like this could only exist in this scenario.
