Emmys 2016: 9 Ups & 3 Downs

2. The Americans Loses Best Writing To Game Of Thrones

There was a major Twitter uproar when Game of Thrones' epic The Battle of the Bastards won the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series award over The Americans' season four finale Persona Non Grata.

While it's hard to deny that Thrones' nominated episode was an absolute home-run, it's probably fair to say that the action-heavy episode succeeded more due to the visceral performances, direction and below-the-line production elements.

Sure, it was a well-written episode, but was it really the best of its category? The Americans will probably win all those awards it so blatantly deserves at the end of its run, but the voters' choice here really felt wrong.
