Emmys 2017: 9 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

9. Sean Spicer's Surprise Appearance

Easily the most shocking and unexpected moment of the entire night was the surprise appearance by former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who showed up on a rolling podium and interrupted Stephen Colbert's opening monologue.

Spicer then proceeded to mock his time working for Trump, claiming, "This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period, both in person and around the world", before Colbert saw him off by adding, "Melissa McCarthy everybody. Give it up."

Though there are certainly debates to be had about whether or not Spicer should be allowed to make light of his harmful behaviour under Trump, it was at least a shocking, outrageous moment like the Emmys has rarely seen.
