Emmys 2017 Nominations: 10 Most Outrageous Snubs

8. Oprah Winfrey - The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

American Gods Emmys 2
HBO

You may have gone through life just assuming that Oprah Winfrey has never been overlooked for any achievements she's ever had. And it's also not a difficult argument to make that surely she has had her fair share of accolades, so what's the harm in her missing out this one time?

But it's not like anyone is bemoaning the poor, underappreciated Oprah. It's just a little bizarre that she, normally an awards show favorite, didn't receive a nomination for her performance in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, one that richly deserved acknowledgement.

Based on the true story and bestseller of the same name, Oprah portrays a poverty-stricken black woman whose cancer cells were used to create the first immortalized cell line, one that is still used in research today.

It shines a light on the ethical abuses in medical culture, as her cells were used without her consent and without compensation to her or her family. It's a really solid television movie, and Oprah puts in an excellent performance. Alas, she'll have to be satisfied with being a household name and having millions of dollars.
