Emmys 2017 Nominations: 10 Most Outrageous Snubs

6. Freddie Highmore - Bates Motel

American Gods Emmys 2
A&E

The curse of the former child actor is the eternal struggle to be taken seriously, and to have every role one takes seen as a deliberate attempt to be taken seriously.

Unless of course you happen to be Freddie Highmore and you launch your adult career with an unnerving turn as Norman Bates on the criminally underrated Bates Motel. Because after that, no one was thinking of his as the little boy from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Finding Neverland.

He's always been good on the show, but this past season has required more from him as an actor, as the young Norman descends further into madness, and his character's isolation strips him of any meaningful screen partners.

But while Vera Farmiga has been nominated in the past for her performance as the equally off-putting Norma Bates, Freddie Highmore has yet to receive any significant attention for his work on the show.
