Emmys 2017 Nominations: 15 Major Shocks & Snubs

9. Snub: Roseanne (Outstanding Comedy Series)

Twin Peaks Emmys
ABC

In spite of the unprecedented success that the revival of Roseanne turned out to be, the beloved comedy series failed to pick up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.

There's speculation online that Roseanne's omission from the category is likely due to the controversial tweet that series star Roseanne Barr sent out earlier this year - which resulted in ABC cancelling the sitcom once and for all. However, this isn't necessarily the case as, regardless of the show's huge audience, many would argue that the show isn't really Emmy-worthy. The comedies that tend to get nominated in this category are those put out by the likes of Netflix and HBO, which are overall better written than those on network television.

However, the Academy has a reputation of nominating the shows that receive the highest viewing figures, so its hard not to speculate about whether Roseanne would've received a nomination had it not been for Barr's tweet.
