Emmys 2024 Review: 9 Ups & 7 Downs
8. The Bear's First Season Gets Its Just Desserts
Even accepting its bizarre placement in the "comedy" category - which is awkward at best and category fraud at worst - The Bear took home a well-deserved six awards, for Best Comedy Series, Best Lead Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Best Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Best Supporting Actress (Ayo Edebiri), Best Directing, and Best Writing.
Given that The Bear's first season was such a major breath of fresh air when it premiered in the summer of 2022, it was certainly great to see it rewarded here, even if anyone who's seen the even-better second season knows it has a solid chance of also dominating in the next Emmys this September.
While it might've been nice to see the wealth shared a little with other deserving "comedy" shows like Barry and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it's tough to argue much with The Bear's persuasive showing here.
